justino : okay so thanks to all your creative outpourings my problem now is that i have twelve swinney ad banners in rotation so swinney is more likely than anything else to pop up. so i want to balance the odds some, but my voodoo stacking of scripts and virtual server includes isn't coming through into anything visible. so i had a vision for a small C program I could write to put this all together right. But I haven't written C code in like four years. Hurm. Maybe I'll sketch out the program and then dig out my textbook from College. I used to be able to do stuff like this: http://www.links.net/vita/swat/course/unixc/ .

What I was thinking to do is create files representing the HTML involved in posting each particular ad. Then write a program that indexes each of those files within a Swinney subdirectory. Each file is matched against a number, and the file represented by the current number is copied into the rotation. A chron job runs each night that iterates the number one further in the rotation, and the according file is copied over the old one. I think I could figure out how to write that in C. could I use that to rotate Swinney ad banners on Links.net? Or do I have to write it in shell script or perl or something?
